PROFHILO

Biomodeling for Improved Skin Quality and Tightening

Profhilo's effectiveness is anchored in its ability to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin. These essential structural proteins provide the scaffolding for youthful, plump, and elastic skin. As we age, collagen and elastin production naturally decline, leading to visible signs of laxity and wrinkles.

By delivering hyaluronic acid in a unique formulation, Profhilo triggers a cascade of cellular responses. The sustained release of hyaluronic acid sends signals to fibroblasts, the skin cells responsible for collagen and elastin production. This stimulation results in the formation of new collagen and elastin fibers, ultimately leading to improved skin quality, elasticity, and a tightening effect.

What Makes Profhilo Unique?

Unlike traditional dermal fillers or bio-revitalisers, Profhilo ushers in a new era of injectable aesthetics: biomodeling. This technique targets the underlying causes of skin laxity by stimulating the production of collagen and elastin, the very building blocks of youthful skin.

Key Features of Profhilo:

  • BDDE-Free Stabilised Hyaluronic Acid: Profhilo is the first injectable product to utilize hyaluronic acid stabilised with a biocompatible compound, free of BDDE (butanediol diglycidyl ether). This innovative technology ensures a safe and effective treatment.

  • Stimulation of Collagen and Elastin Production: Profhilo's unique formulation goes beyond simple hydration. The slow release of hyaluronic acid over a 28-day period triggers the production of four different types of collagen and elastin. This enhanced production leads to significant tissue improvement and a tightening and lifting effect.

  • Long-Lasting Results: The sustained release of hyaluronic acid provides long-lasting benefits. Patients can expect to see a noticeable improvement in skin quality, hydration, and elasticity for several months following treatment.

  • Pre-treatment

To prepare for your Profhilo treatment, certain precautions are recommended to optimise the experience and minimise potential side effects. For 24 hours before treatment, avoid alcohol, aspirin, ibuprofen, and other blood-thinning medications or supplements like St. John's Wort, fish oils, Ginkgo Biloba, Vitamins C and E (unless medically necessary). Please arrive for your appointment makeup-free and avoid any active skin infections such as cold sores. If you experience any illness or begin new medications beforehand, consult the clinic to discuss if rescheduling is necessary.

  • Treatment

Profhilo treatment involves a series of injections with a very fine needle at specific points on the face and neck. The number of injection sites will vary depending on your individual needs. The injections themselves are relatively quick, and most patients tolerate the procedure well. Following the treatment, you may experience mild swelling, redness, or tenderness at the injection sites, which typically subside within a few days. While some improvement may be visible immediately, Profhilo's full effects develop gradually over a course of about a month as your body produces new collagen and elastin.

  • Aftercare

In the following 48 hours after treatment, or until any swelling disappears, it's advisable to avoid strenuous exercise and excessive sun exposure. To minimize the risk of infection, makeup should be avoided on the injected areas for 24 hours. If makeup is essential, medical-grade foundations like Et al. are recommended as they can aid healing. Additionally, for 5 days following treatment, refrain from firm rubbing of the treated area. Lastly, avoid taking aspirin, St. John's Wort, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen for a few days post-treatment. However, if you require these medications for a medical reason, consult your doctor before stopping them.

FAQs

  • Profhilo typically involves an initial course of two treatments spaced four weeks apart. This allows for optimal stimulation of collagen and elastin production. The number of maintenance sessions needed will vary depending on your individual response and desired results. Your doctor will be able to tailor a treatment plan to meet your specific needs, and for some areas like the neck, only one session may be sufficient.

  • While Profhilo is designed to minimize downtime, there are a few things to expect after your treatment. Since firm massage can disrupt product placement, you may experience small, pea-sized bumps at the injection sites for a few hours. These typically resolve on their own by the next day. There's also a slight chance of minimal bruising, which can easily be concealed with makeup.

  • While the initial Profhilo treatment lasts around 6 months, this doesn't mean your skin returns entirely to its pre-treatment state. The hyaluronic acid may be depleted, but the stimulated collagen and elastin production has a longer lifespan. To maintain these benefits and continue actively remodeling your skin, biannual maintenance sessions are recommended.

  • Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a fascinating natural molecule found throughout your body. It plays a crucial role in keeping your skin hydrated and plump by attracting and holding onto water molecules. However, our body breaks down HA relatively quickly, necessitating constant replacement. Unfortunately, this replacement process weakens as we age, contributing to wrinkles and loss of facial volume. Beyond its aesthetic applications, HA injections are also used medically to treat osteoarthritis and improve eye surgery outcomes.
