What is Cryopen?

Cryopen is a state-of-the-art cryotherapy treatment that uses ultra-cold temperatures to freeze and remove unwanted skin lesions. This treatment is:

  • Quick and precise: The Cryopen device delivers a controlled burst of nitrous oxide directly to the target area.

  • Minimally invasive: Reduces discomfort and minimises downtime.

  • Effective: Ideal for removing skin tags, warts, verrucae, and various benign lesions.

  • Safe: Performed by experts in a clinical setting to ensure optimal results.

This innovative treatment is designed to target problematic areas without damaging the surrounding healthy skin.

FAQs

  • Cryopen is the latest advancement in cryotherapy, using nitrous oxide (N₂O) at -89°C to precisely treat benign skin lesions.

By freezing the skin to -45°C, Cryopen rapidly turns the liquid inside lesion cells into ice shards, rupturing the cell membrane and effectively destroying the lesion. This quick process prevents the body from reacting, ensuring optimal results.

  • During the procedure, the treated area will freeze and turn white. As it thaws, the skin may flush red, and a raised weal—similar to a bee sting—can form, often accompanied by dispersed redness around the area. Within 2-4 hours, a blister may develop, lasting 3-5 days before turning into a scab. This scab will naturally fall off within 1-2 weeks. In some cases, a new scab may form as part of the healing process, with full recovery typically taking around 4 weeks. At this point, a follow-up session may be required.

Once healed, the area may appear lighter or pink due to the temporary loss of melanocytes, which are highly sensitive to cold and begin to die at -5°C and below.

While it’s best to keep the area uncovered, a plaster or dressing can be used if the site is prone to friction. It is crucial not to pick at the scab, as this can increase the risk of scarring.

  • Most patients experience minimal discomfort.

  • Many lesions are resolved in a single session, though some cases may require follow-up treatments.

  • At Hilltop Beauty Salon, we use the Map My Mole service not only to monitor your skin's health but also to ensure that any mole requiring treatment is benign and suitable for Cryopen therapy. This service allows us to capture high-quality images reviewed by expert dermatologists, ensuring your mole is safe to treat with our Cryopen for optimal results.

  • Side effects are minimal and may include temporary redness, swelling, or occasional scabbing at the treatment site, which is a normal part of the healing process.
